a book-themed weekend
friday: bookmobile at space 1026. it's taken four separate sessions in there for me to finally start to feel like i'm making a dent but oh it's been so marvelous. the writing! the art! i want to do it. i can do it. i should do it. i will do it.
saturday: books through bars at the a-space. nicole emailed me afterwards to say that they want me to get more involved with it, and i think i will. dusty pursuits. afterwards, i got a library card at the walnut street branch and checked out a few books for myself. a very disorganized and sparse collection there, though it's a nice, sunlit space from being so new (opened in fall 2004). got lunch/dinner from the chinese food truck which was an intriguing and spicy vegetarian gen tso's chicken with excellent lo mein on the side. thennnn after some putzing around at home during which i planned to read my newly-acquired library books but frittered it away instead...it was time for the bookmobile party!! spent another quality hour inside the BM, then went inside for fantastically delicious five-tier five-tear cake. imbibed apple cider with rum. danced (!) the last song of the night so didn't sit out the entire dance party. the lure of the dance party brought out Emily, Erin, Oske, and Chris. i was very glad to see them, and even remembered to ask them if they wanted to go to the Monday movie night for The Warriors. Oske practically passed out at the mention of that movie, she's such a fan. actually spent a lot of time on the couch talking to Janet, which was good and low-key. so yes. booksbooksbooks.

i found out later, right before the movie actually, that Oske had never seen The Warriors before and we deduced that the gasp of enthusiasm she emitted was in fact most likely a response to a song that the DJ coincidentally put on at that exact moment. also, the Director's Cut is lame, don't watch it.
