(incidentally, the way that george washington has "gone down" in history textbooks is particularly relevant now that i am reading Loewen's Lies My Teacher Told Me.)

two summers ago: the summer i was in love with pop-punk.
last summer: the summer i worked for housing.
this summer: the summer i had sideburns. and how i loved them so.

not that they've gone anywhere yet, but they're going to get grown out. so come ye awkward in-between stages associated with such an endeavor.

incidentally, i now understand why people say that "the scene is dead." PSAdam sent us a link a while ago to Playboy's "Hottest Woman in Indie Rock" poll (not the exact title but you get the drift) and today i went back to see who won. Neko Case. Though I feel like it may have been rigged cause not only did she consent to an interview and is seriously considering their offer of posing in the magazine, she also spoke glowingly of them, having always been a fan of it etc etc. Lucky coincidence for them. (I voted for Chan Marshall.) But anyway, the really scary part was, while looking for said results, there was a blurb advertising an article in the current issue -- an article called "The Hipster's Guide to Dating", described as "Grab your horn-rimmed glasses and vintage sneakers and check out our can't-miss guide to nailing bohemian chicks." aughh. in Playboy!? the irony wears really really thin.

incidentally part two, this Swedish internet radio station spraydio has been my latest addiction. (you'll need Windows Media Player though.) Particularly, the Tokyo-Darling channel. The neatest part is that you get to put in what songs you want to get played, but each person can only request two at a time, so it ends up being a collaborative playlist effort, with the automated system filling in when necessary. The selection of music is better than any non-college US internet radio stations i've checked out, and it's a little more consistent and less out-there than college radio. A little bit cheesy (En Vogue - Free Your Mind) and a little bit serious (PJ Harvey) so we get along well. Not that being out-there is a bad thing (certainly not!!) but college radio webstreams are a bit more hit-or-miss for frequent listening. AND wrct's web stream is down still...
