swan songs

last Fraggle Rock of the summer schedule. with a bonus hour, cause the station was off when I showed up at 7:30. started at 7:50, ran out of music by 9:30. spent last 90 minutes playing it by ear and trying to solicit as many requests as possible. a zillion phone calls in the span of 5 minutes. a family of four each called individually to request Daft Punk. first a little boy, then another little boy, then the mom, then the dad. all requesting different songs, and each call more insistent than the last.

an excerpt -
second little boy: can you play {some track} by Daft Punk?
me: um..i don't think we have that.
muffled sounds of two little boys deliberating: she says they dont have it..
second little boy: yeah you do, you played it yesterday.
me: um..i'll look for it.
s.l.b: yeah, you should try to find it.

also, a girl did the thing were she called up and said "i was wondering about a few of the songs you played. i missed the titles and names, but i can sing them for you?" luckily, the first one she tried to see was "You Will, etc." (see 8/22/02 post) so that one was easy. and the second one was the track right after, a bright eyes track from Oh Holy Fools. she was very excited to know what they were and declared she would definitely go buy them. i was proud to have been of assistance in enlarging the cult of Conor.
