"And pi will always love you" - Whitney Houston
i forgot to wish all you kids a Happy Pi Day, so i hope you got out there and did some geeky stuff. over here at CMU, the festivities were in full swing. one of the things that makes this place great is how there's more stuff going on for Pi Day than for any other holiday of the year, including Christmas. the centerpiece was the annual chalking of pi all over campus. this year they outdid themselves by a power of 2. 8,192 digits snaking around almost every campus building, in one-foot numerals skipping down steps and along sidewalks. with some fabulous pi puns thrown in for good measure.
and cause it's what all the cool kids do on Friday night, Matt H, Neal Martin, the Elusive Brody, and I spent at least an hour and a half in the Cyert cluster before heading out to Regent Square to see Talk to Her. it was extremely sad, but very well done, and beautiful in the realism of its characters and dialogue. it leaves me with mixed feelings as to what it was ultimately trying to say about love/devotion/loyalty... except that "love is not [one-sided] devotion" as suggested by Matt [with my addition].
